Justin Wohlford

Squad:  23 - Barnstormers

Hometown:  Lena, IL

High School:  Lena-Winslow Dist. 202

Major:  Aeronautical Engineering

Justin is involved in the Drum & Bugle Corps and is the Squadron Academic Officer.  This summer sessions will be spent on leave during the first, OPS for second and as a Beast Cadre for the class of 2012.

Justin was active in high school on the football team, track team, played euphonium/baritone in the concert and marching bands, and bass guitar in the jazz band.  He was a Boy Scout, earning his Eagle rank in 2005.  He participated for four years in the FIRST Robotics competition, attended Boys State, the Academy's Summer Science program and a summer seminar course at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL (his second choice of universities).  He was a four year member of the Academic Bowl team and selected All-Conference two years.  He was named to the All-State Academic team in 2006.  He graduated as Salutatorian and was a National Merit Finalist.  He has been working toward a private pilots license and had his first solo flight in the fall of 2005.

His 4 degree year, Justin was a member of Squadron 21/Blackjacks.  He is currently assigned to Squadron 23/ Barnstormers.  In addition to his squadron duties, Justin has been a member of the D&B, playing euphonium, for the past two years.  This semester he is the Moral and Readiness Officer for the D&B.

He spent most of last spring and this fall on a Form 18 after five surgeries over a period of less than six months.  All the result of a snowboarding accident (at least it was at Keystone).  Gratefully, that is behind him now, although he really missed being able to really enjoy the snow this past winter.

Last summer he earned his Jump wings and spent OPS at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL.  This summer starts with first session leave, followed by OPS at RAF Lakenheath, England.  Upon return, he will be Athletic and Logistics NCO for the Flying Tigers Squadron for the second half of BEAST.

Justin's older brother, Joshua, is a 2Lt stationed at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX training as a NAV.  While Justin and his brother share many common interests, their paths have been different.  Joshua commissioned last May after completing a degree in Aerospace Engineering at Saint Louis University, STL, MO where he was a member of AFROTC Detachment 207.
