Every year thousands of young men and women apply for acceptance into the Academy. The admission process is a lengthy one and there are multiple steps involved, most begin this process in the second semester of their Junior High School year. To apply to the Academy, you must be of good moral character and meet these basic eligibility requirements:
- At least 17 but not past your 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year you enter the Academy
- A United States Citizen
- Unmarried with no dependents
- Obtain a Nomination, normally from a US Senator or US Representative.

It is also recommended that you make contact with your Admissions Liaison Officer (ALO) early in your application process. Later in the application process you will complete a personal interview with your ALO.
6th-10th Grade Students can get an early start preparing. You can register for the Pre-Junior Program designed to guide you through the first Semester of your Junior Year with periodic mailings to keep you informed on about the US Air Force Academy and what you need to be doing to be competitive for an Appointment.
