Having a cadet at the Academy is
challenging for the Cadets and their families. This club is dedicated to
the support of our Cadets and their families. Anyone residing in Northern
Illinois with a Cadet candidate, Cadet or graduate of the United States Air
Force Academy is eligible for membership in the
USAFA Northern Illinois Parents Club. We have 52 member
families and would love to have you.
CURRENT INFORMATION CENTER
This time of year much information is sent from USAFA regarding the many events,
functions, Cadet travel, etc. Many of these emails are forwarded to the
NIPC members but it is hard to pass them all. To make it easier this
information will be posted here so it is available 24/7.

NIPC Summer Picnic & General Meeting
Cantigny
On August 14th, at
12pm, the NIPC will be having its Summer Picnic and General Meeting at Cantigny in Wheaton.. What was
inviting about having the Picnic/Meeting at Cantigny is the fact that the Mid
America
Air Force Band, out of the Scott Air Force Base in southern Illinois,
will be performing at 3:00 outside the
First Division Museum. We have seen them play numerous
times. They are terrific.
Also, Cantigny is a great place to visit. They have
beautiful gardens, the McCormick mansion (A League of their Own
was filmed there), a great military museum, and tanks for climbing on. See
more at
www.cantigny.org.
We hope to see all of you there. As always, if any questions, please let us
know. Information
on the Jazz ensemble is available here.

UPDATE: Update on
Football block for Parent's weekend. The ticket office graciously opened up
another block in section M21, same price. The rest of us are in M22, so at
least you all will be together. There are an additional 40 tickets so go
ahead and order using the same NIPC code. Remember, don't put it off.
You have only until the 31st.
Hello
NIPC Parents:
Many of you have been asking about Parents Weekend Football tickets.
Here's the scoop: because of the large number of block requests, USAFA set up
TWO windows of opportunities to buy tickets. We got the second window
which means that we will be able to purchase block tickets online or by phone
BEGINNING JULY 22 through JULY 31. Our block is tentatively slotted to be
in Section M22 which means Premium reserved $35 per ticket right above the 50
yard line.
The USAFA ticket office will be sending more information on July 18 with
instructions on how to buy tickets - we will share that information as soon as
it becomes available. Our code for internet orders is NIPC. It is
imperative that to be in the NIPC block, you must order tickets by July 31.
General public ticket sales starts Aug.1.
If you prefer not to sit in the NIPC block, (we can't imagine why), you can
purchase tickets now by calling 800-666-8723 or 719-472-1895, however you will
not be located with our group.
So hold tight. As soon as we get the information on Monday we will get the
information out to you. GO FALCONS!

Doolie Day Picnic
Sunday, July 10, 2011
For
the fourth year in a row, the Bruce & Terri Lanphear hosted the Doolie Day Out
picnic. This year, 2nd LT. Lanphear joined the group for the first time.
Also there was 3-degree Michelle Kuyper, who just finished her Doolie year and
was there to answer any and all questions. Prior to recapping the event,
we must thank Lanphear's for the great weather; somehow they have been able to
do this for the last few years.
The
day started with early arrivals to help set-up for the event. For all
those who did, thank you so much. The event started at 1pm with food at
2pm, so there was plenty of time to greet old friends, meet new friends and
catch up on all the news. Past President Tom Kashul was there to welcome
members with open arms !!! Yes, we are friendly group and the day was
good.
It
was a VERY hot day but the Lanphear's have a beautiful pool that afforded any
who wanted to either swim or to cool off while enjoying the meeting. As
the pictures show, many members took advantage of the pool and it was so nice to
see that the members were so comfortable with one another that enjoying the pool
was not an issue; kinda like Air Force family.
After
an hour or so of talking, the food was ready to eat and that was enjoyed.
The broiled and fried chicken, Italian beef, grilled Italian sausage (thanks
Bruce), lasagna, garlic bread and all the side dishes brought by the members
provided choices that satisfied all. Then the 2015 cake was brought out to
"top things" off.
Presidents
Elvin & Sara Harms called the meeting together and began by having all the
member families introduce themselves. For those 2011 alum it was very
sobering to realize that our four years are done and just how quickly it went
(for us, not the cadets :) ). After the introductions the '15s
shared their experiences with their phone calls. Let's recap: one
male Doolie (who shall go unnamed) was talked for over 2 hours on the phone,
which is more then he has talked the prior 4 years; several phone calls over the
day and the sense from some parents that there are already changes in their
children. Then Elvin and Sara covered the 2011-2012 upcoming events:
Annual Picnic, possibly at Cantigny in Wheaton in August to
see see the Air Force Band play.
Parents Weekend.
Oct. 8th USAFA vs. Notre Dame football game.
Fall meeting
All Academy Ball
Then
the newest Fundraiser was discussed. As parents go through their 4 years,
they realize they have alot of memorable moments and items that they have and
having a way to organize / remember these events presents an opportunity to help
parents and raise funds. The picture shows the memory book. You'll
notice that we have been authorized to use the USAFA logo; the NIPC is
the only club to have that.
A very exciting, emotional, challenging, stressful
and unbelievable week of events is about to take place. Strap
in for the ride.
This roller coaster ride will last for all 4 years and during that time you and
your cadet will experience many ups & downs. This is the nature of the
beast...everything at the AFA can change at any given moment, for no apparent
reason. One thing that is consistent at the Academy is CHANGE.
This opportunity can be viewed
in two ways. First, the culmination of years of hard work, anticipation,
diligence, and perseverance. Your "Cadet" has reached a place that he/she has
dreamed of for a long, long time. Secondly, it is the beginning of a challenge
matched by no other.
The coming weeks will be a hard;
mixed with emotion and the realization that the son/daughter you are sending out
to Colorado Springs, the Basic Cadet, will not be the same person you will
see at Parent's Weekend. The Cadet that will hug you the next time you see
him/her will be a confident, disciplined, young adult who has learned plenty and
will look incredibly mature standing in front of you in their service dress.
Our thoughts are with you.
This section is for the benefit of the Class of
2015. The coming year will go quickly and there will be much going on.
This database will continue to grow as information is received, organized and
posted.
Class color: Gold. The Class of 2015 is taking over
for the Class of 2011, whose color was Gold. There are four class colors,
Red, Gold, Blue and Silver.
